On Thursday 20th November 2025, we received not one, but TWO awards at the Quirky Wedding Awards held in Birmingham, the UK’s only Wedding Awards celebrating alternative, inclusive, accessible, and unique wedding suppliers. The two categories Old Skool Bus Events won this year were ‘Best Curated Bar Experience’ and ‘Most Innovative Catering’

Our Operations & Bar Manager, Nik, went up to the awards ceremony as our Director Kate was overseas and sadly could not attend. The National Final was held at Manahatta in Birmingham, and as always the Quirky Wedding Fayre team threw an awesome party. The judges were super complimentary and we were so thrilled to have won, outshining hundreds of applicants from across the UK apparently!

The awards were judged by industry experts using a unique secret shopper method, examining their websites, social media profiles and reviews from the perspective of a potential client. The applicants were assessed on four main areas of their business – Inclusivity & Accessibility, Sustainability, Customer Service and Uniqueness.

Why are we an approved Quirky Wedding Supplier?

Old Skool Bus Events is a unique event catering business based in Brighton, Sussex, a vibrant and diverse city, perfect for quirky, alternative and inclusive weddings. Being recommended catering suppliers at several venues across Sussex we regularly deliver the bar service and food at rustic barn venues and help plan festival style weddings in more blank canvas farm fields. We create signature cocktails for our wedding couples, set up themed cocktail or craft beer bars, serve delicious ‘less formal’ sharing feast menus, and of course also dish up fantastic street food menus from our amazing American food truck in the evening reception

When the team are not delivering weddings you can find us serving street food from our vintage American school bus food truck at large events and festivals, serving TV & Film production crew on filming locations, or dishing up festival crew catering at some of the most famous festivals in the UK. This summer Old Skool Bus Events were booked at Glastonbury Festival for the longest running crew catering contract on site for 8 weeks, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner for an incredible 57 consecutive days! Some weeks we served 250 staff three times per day, however at the busiest point of the contract, the week before the festival itself, we were serving the meals for up to 800 staff from the well-oiled canteen!

Director, Kate Packham, said “Whether we are speaking to wedding couples or festival organisers, we pride ourselves on our ethos of being a fully inclusive supplier and employer, and customer service is of the utmost importance to us. We like to work ‘with’ our clients to go above and beyond just serving food and drinks. We ensure that we personalise menus according to the customers requirements and invest time in sustainability, sourcing local ingredients, and really place an emphasis on using great quality, healthy and fresh produce.”

The Quirky Wedding Awards are the only alternative Wedding Awards in the UK and are run by Quirky Weddings, who also run the Quirky Wedding Fayre and Quirky Weddings Magazine. The awards were created for the sole purpose of acknowledging the amazing alternative wedding community, who are often overlooked for more traditional wedding awards, for not only offering something unique, but also for championing inclusivity and accessibility, and helping to create a zero-judgement wedding industry.

What do our customers say about us?

Here is a lovely review that one of our couples left us on Google:

“We used Old Skool Bus Events for our wedding, and Kate and her team were absolutely brilliant. They sorted all the amazing food and managed the bar too. We met Kate a couple of times before the wedding in the pub to get to know each other and talk through what sort of food we wanted. We went for a Mediterranean-style buffet and it was perfect.

Kate helped us plan everything around the food and drink. She set our minds at ease, helped with where to hire the plates and glasses, advised on how much booze to order for our guests, and even sorted the ice. This was a DIY wedding with no official wedding planner, but Kate really stepped up and made it all run smoothly.

The food itself was incredible – everyone raved about it. It was super tasty and there was plenty for everyone. The bus is also super cool and adds something really special to the day. We can’t recommend Old Skool Bus Events enough for weddings or any event. They went well beyond our expectations.”
