WEDDING CATERING

WEDDING CATERING

We have been serving our Bride & Grooms their wedding catering now for several years! Our first was a purely vegetarian Mexican menu, served to 100 guests in a woodland feast setting.

The second was a wedding with two wonderful brides at an awesome festival style wedding that was organised by none other than the operations manager of Brighton Pride! Believe me, no two weddings have been the same, and we LOVE it that way!

Traditional Weddings

We aren’t your traditional wedding caterer. Full stop! We are, however, sometimes booked for the evening street food for some weddings that do choose the more traditional, formal wedding breakfast at a venue, and we love visiting those venues too!

We cater for a lot of couples and families who want something a bit different from the norm, but still a nice local spread of deliciously cooked and well presented food. Let’s face it, an American school bus catering truck isn’t quite the norm in rural Sussex!

However, don’t be fooled thinking we only serve food truck menus and BBQ’s! We have some excellent menus that suit families of all ages with different tastes, so we can keep everyone happy. Our new sharing feasts are now our best selling options, alongside a locally sourced Sussex produce BBQ or buffet.

We also do great canapes that are tasty, look fabulous, and have a bit more of a bite to them. We’d call them Manapes rather than Canapes if I didn’t think the girls who also like big bites would be offended, and that’s not a very inclusive title for fabulous food bites!

Quirky Weddings

This seems to be where we get enquiries from A LOT! Couples who want to break the mold, do what the hell they want and enjoy every moment of it!

We’ve had some re-enactment themed weddings with swords and fairytale costumes, woodland themed dress codes, and many festival style weddings of course!

We are very, very proud to have been shortlisted for The UK Quirky Wedding Awards 2024, and are in the ‘Most Unique Caterers’ category!

STREET FOOD TRUCK

We have been serving happy couples street food from our truck in the evenings on their wedding day for several years. Some of the most popular wedding snacks for the evening are Gourmet Burger and Fries, Cheesy Toasties, Loaded Fries or Nachos, and our hugely popular Mexican style bowl food and tacos.

Sussex Weddings

The Old Skool Bus and Kitchen are recommended Sussex caterers at several rustic wedding venues, and beyond!

We offer a range of delicious wedding menus and we pride ourselves on the more affordable and less formal food service.

We’re not a formal plated dinner service, there are plenty of excellent Sussex caterers who provide this style of catering, but we like to do things a little differently.

We love a seated dinner, but served as a sharing feast or colourful buffet rather than individually plated.

However, if you’d like to keep things more traditional, we do still provide beautiful and tasty canapes served to your guests in the tipi fields on stylish food platters or trays.

TYPICAL WEDDING DAY

When we say ‘typical’ we are referring to the behind the scenes organisation and management of your wedding catering for the food and drink, not the wedding itself of course. Every wedding day is unique, however, you can be rest assured that our catering operations are experienced so that you can get ready with your wedding party and forget about anything to do with the welcome drinks, canape timings, whether the drinks are chilled or the food being delicious and hot on time! We will take care of everything to do with the catering, and if you’ve booked us to run the bar too (which works well at most rustic venues) then you don’t need to worry about anything to do with the drinks either!

Timings are key, so a guide to how we regularly operate is usually really helpful for most brides and grooms. Obviously ceremony times vary, but here’s an example for you:

Friday before the wedding

10am – The food truck is delivered to the venue for set up. Fridges plugged in and chefs either prep on site or at our prep kitchen all day

Saturday – Wedding day!

8am – 9am – Chefs and catering managers are beavering away organising food and beverages
12pm – Bar staff set up the arrival drinks ready for guests
1pm – Guests arrive, cocktails or bubbles served, along with soft drinks and juice for children
1.30pm – Wedding ceremony
2.15pm – Congratulations! Drinks are topped up and guests mingle
2.30pm – Canapes served roaming the guests while photographs are taken
4pm – Wedding breakfast is served – Enjoy a seated sharing feast or a more casual buffet
5.30pm – Speeches and dessert stations are served, cutting of a wedding cake
6pm – Bar opens (this varies depending on style of bar service booked)
Entertainment starts – bands, family performances, mingling
7pm – DJ & first dance
9pm – 10pm – Evening food can be served as street food from the food truck, roaming by our staff, or as a grazing table buffet
11pm – Last orders at the bar, most rustic venues allow you to finish drinks until 11.45pm

Sunday – Brunch or clear up day?!

The majority of weddings have Sunday to clear up the venue, however some festival style glamping wedding venues allow you to enjoy the fields and facilities all day. Our staff are happy to camp at glamping sites so that we can cater for your guests at brunch the next day!

We could serve Bloody Mary’s with a full english breakfast, or just bacon baps with a tea and coffee station. We would usually require a minimum of 50 guests to be able to provide this added on, however every wedding is different, so we can discuss this with you depending on your requirements and staff costs.

We usually collect the food truck on Sunday afternoon, and finish our side of the packing away. Hire equipment can usually go back dirty to the supplier, and is usually collected on Monday. However this does vary, and do be aware some ‘free hire’ glasses service do require you to wash them all properly on the Sunday before you deliver them back to the warehouse yourself. We are happy to advise you, and guide you on these finer details!

Waste, recycling and food

Wedding venues vary on their waste removal processes. Some have large bins and recycling facilities they include in their venue fees, however most require both the wedding couple and the caterer to remove the majority of the rubbish. We are licensed with Brighton & Hove Council to use bins for our catering rubbish bin liners, so we can take our bags away with us on the Sunday. Recycling removal will usually be down to the wedding party if they’ve provided all their own arrival drinks, wine and bar stock, however if you book us to run the bar and provide all the stock, then of course that would be our job!

What clients are saying about us

Gote Barn Ringmer 2024

Leela & Oscar

“Katie and her team catered our wedding.

From the start to finish we had a great experience.

The food was delicious and generous, catering to all allergies.
Katie helped us loads ahead of the day sharing her experience and making sure we had all the parts we needed organised.

On the day her team were fantastic, friendly, efficient and on top of everything so we could just switch off and enjoy the day.

We couldn’t recommend old skool bus catering enough.”

Enchanted Glade 2024

Avril & John

“Katie and her team were amazing at my Sept 2024 wedding. In the run up to the wedding she was very helpful with lots of options and happy to discuss how everything would work. They had an excellent selection of food for both meat eaters and veggies. The food was amazing and not a bad thing was said by any guest. Huge variety. Just wish I had the appetite to have eaten more on the day! Kate also went above and beyond providing my partner and I with nibbles before our ceremony, her staff helped with our donut wall and sorting out a much needed coffee!!! All round a fantastic day with great food! Would definitely use again and recommend to friends. The fact it was in a yellow bus was a cherry on top!”
