The festival market in the UK has evolved hugely over the decades, and is a very interesting one to watch. It’s amazing to see the images and footage of hippies and ravers in the fields of yesteryear, and what fun they looked, but the genres have developed into some awesome themes since then! The large variety of festivals nowadays has expanded the focus beyond banging tunes to classic cars, wacky wrestling and of course flipping fabulous food! Although we love the likes of rave, house and disco music festivals, we also like to embrace the more unconventional and unusual occasions too. So, sit back and sink your teeth into all the awesome festivals we’ve been to or catered at over the last few years!

Some of our festival experience!

We can’t talk about festivals without mentioning one of the biggest, most prestigious performing arts festivals in the world. For the last three years, we’ve had the pleasure of catering at Glastonbury Festival – the absolute queen of festivals! Featuring performances from leading music, dance, comedy, theatre, and visual artists, Glasto attracts over 200,00 ticket holders, all ready to indulge in good vibes and incredible street food. Our Old American School Bus is perfect for events like this, where we serve the likes of amazing American-style grilled sourdough cheesy toasties, gourmet burgers and fries, loaded fries and big breakfasts to the happy campers.

Serving our local Sussex events

Being Brighton-based, we always pride ourselves in using local produce, but it’s even better when we get to serve the local community! The Great Escape is the festival for new music, showcasing 450 emerging artists from all over the world in 30+ walkable venues across the city and a pop-up festival site on Brighton Beach. Not only is this Brighton’s annual feast of discovery in terms of emerging artists, but also for foodies! We put together a burger and fries menu fit for festival fanatics, featuring our American Classic, Mexicana, Buffalo Chicken and New Yorker Deli burgers and skin on fries, all made with fresh ingredients and tasty fillings.

Brighton Pride

Brighton Pride is the UK’s biggest LGBTQ+ Pride event, bringing over £22m of revenue into the city and fundraising for several registered charities. We were lucky enough to operate as their ‘crew caterer’ in 2022 in Preston Park, feeding the hungry production crew, event control, security and the main organisers. Crew catering is a very different function from food trading at a festival, and encompasses a core need on site to look after the different teams that help build, run and manage the entertainment at festivals. We were obviously even more thrilled to feed the artists and entourage of Christina Aguilera and Paloma Faith with her family, who were headline acts at Brighton Pride that year!

Other local events our team has worked at…

‘Life in the Park’ was a festival curated to celebrate the return to life, normality and a fresh new venue following the COVID-19 pandemic. House artists and fans gathered at Brighton Rugby Club across a month-long series of cool open air parties and exclusive after parties hosted by The Arch and it was great to be serving and dancing along to the tunes from the bus. We served our popular American grilled cheese toasties to the party goers, which were really popular for this event!

Just outside of Brighton, we’ve also catered at the brilliant Lodgefest, a family-friendly event organised by well-loved local radio station 1BTN. Amidst the backdrop of DJs busting out acid house, balearic beats, ambient melodies, jazz, funk, soul, reggae, old-school techno, hip hop, drum’n’bass and rave, we served up sell-out soul food and a fully stocked bar of local ales to wash it down. This festival has now been re-birthed as We Are Love

Sussex & Kent local events

Moving onto some more non-traditional festivals, aptly named We Are Not A Festival in Sussex invites people to re-energise and escape reality with an abundance of making, learning and nurturing wellbeing, whilst focusing on reconnecting with the natural environment. This was our first ever festival with the food truck in 2021, as we only bought the bus in August 2020 in lockdown. We were on hand to serve up nutritious and delicious meals to nourish these festival goers from the inside out.

Festival crew catering

Similarly, Green Gathering Festival in Piercefield Park in Chepstow is the original off-grid, non-profit festival, powered by sun, wind, people and passion for change, where the intimate solar stages showcase up and coming acts, legendary festival favourites, DJs and spellbinding raconteurs. We weren’t amping up the party vibes and feeding the festival community from our bus this time though, we were crew catering for over 300 hungry workers from a marquee canteen! Being the UK’s most sustainable festival, all daily menus were vegetarian and vegan of course, and we had to navigate this with minimal solar power for 3 whole weeks!

One of our favourite campsites as a cafe!

The boutique family-friendly Shindig Festival at Dillington Estate in Somerset was another memorable weekend of bopping to hip hop and embracing the summer vibes while families queued up outside our food truck for great grub for breakfasts!

When we are set up as a festival campsite cafe we can offer hot breakfasts, fresh smoothies, hot & cold drinks, and snacks. We are lucky enough to have been at Glastonbury Festival in the East Campervan Fields for the past three years serving the happy campers, so we are a seasoned brunch trader!

Which events and festivals do we have planned for summer 2025?

We would really like to look at some events with American roots, for example our skoolie would fit right in at events such as Black Deer Festival of Americana. This independent award-winning Americana and Country music festival set in the wild and historic Eridge Park in Kent is built on a love of the great outdoors, the counterculture of custom-built vehicles and authentic American food. Or maybe we will attend some ‘big truck’’ events whose visitors are enthusiasts about the vehicles?!
As for which events we will definitely be attending, you’ll have to wait… it’s all in the pipeline and we are keeping our options open!

Our festivals moving forwards

As you can see, we’re seasoned traders within the festival scene, but we’ve also been involved in crew catering to fuel these large scale events, feeding the crew from day one of the build, throughout the event and during the de-rig. We recognise the huge amount of hard work and organisation that goes into every festival, so we provide balanced and hearty meals to boost morale and make sure the site is ready in time for the party.

Although there have been huge changes in the festival industry since the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been so rewarding to experience so many epic events over the last few years. We’re looking forward to seeing what 2025 holds for us and we’re excited to get back in the fields next summer!
