Relaxed Wedding Catering – All you need to know!
If you’ve started your wedding planning and are considering booking our wedding catering, here’s our answers to some frequently asked catering questions to help you ace your wedding menu!
What kind of food can you serve at my wedding?
We can serve most menus and create something bespoke especially for you! Our food truck is a fully fitted commercial kitchen inside the bus, so we have most kitchen equipment for varied menus. The weddings we cater for are often far from ordinary, and we’re very happy to work with you to craft the perfect menu to cater to all your requirements. So, whether you want a sit down meal or a relaxed and hands on experience, we’ve got you covered! Some of our favourites include the new Mediterranean meets Middle Eastern sharing feast, our super popular Mexican style bowl food and tacos, and of course our Gourmet Burgers & Fries or big American Cheese Toasties served from the food truck itself!
We do always suggest some kind of canapes or nibbles for you and your guests on arrival, as some friends may have travelled a long distance, or depending on the timings of the wedding ceremony, it may be quite a while until you have your wedding breakfast. We can serve pretty canapes on slate or china platters, or the more casual street food ‘bigger bites’ on bamboo or compostable festival style dishes!
Do we serve sharing feasts and buffets?

Food Truck Style
We can either serve street food straight from our truck in the evenings, or roam with bowl food to feed those late night cravings. Our most popular late night snacks are Gourmet Burger and Fries (we have our local butcher make our 100% beef patties!), Cheese Toasties (we use an excellent baker in Brighton who makes delicious chewy white or brown, and a seriously good sourdough), Loaded Fries or Nachos are great for standing while drinking, and our Mexican style bowl food is a best seller. We’ve also served fish ‘n’ chip cones and pulled pork or bacon baps, so please do give us an idea of your favourites as we are very likely to be able to provide suggestions and a quote. If you’re looking for an inexpensive snack option we can also make up cold grazing boards or cheese boards, or a simple finger buffet for you to help yourself.
Wedding Buffets and Sharing Feasts
We specialise in the less formal and more sociable style of wedding catering, so our best selling menus are the ones that bring that friendly, relaxed vibe to your wedding day. Our new sharing feast menus have been hugely popular and are served on the large round tables in your wedding tipi, barn or marquee. Our team delivers beautiful sharing platters to the whole table to serve themselves while they socialise, family style. If you opt for rustic long bench seating we can still create a bespoke sharing feast for you with sides and dips along the tables and supported by a hot buffet and salad bar. We can also serve grazing boards or grazing tables if you are looking for a more self service finger food meal, and can order in specific local produce to make it even extra special to fit your wedding plans.

When booking my wedding venue what checks should I make regarding the catering?
Firstly, pop us an enquiry with your date, the number of guests, and a rough guide of your catering budget, just to check our initial availability for that weekend. We usually quote for a minimum of 100 guests, however we are happy to work on a case by case basis, and if you’re having canapes, a sharing feast, and evening street food snacks then we would definitely consider a lower number for this request.
Whether you’ve confirmed a wedding venue or not, it will be useful if you can ask the questions about power for the food truck and if there are any kitchen, washing up or cleaning facilities onsite for your caterers. This info can help us determine where our chefs prep, cook, and wash up afterwards. Your venue will advise you on what their waste disposal policy is, and what you are expected to remove from the site yourself at the end. Once you’ve confirmed your wedding venue booking and date, it’s very helpful for us to be able to do a site visit ourselves, preferably with you so we can meet face to face, as it’s useful to know the layout of the venue and where there is appropriate space to park the bus. Some wedding venues provide a kitchen or a catering marquee for caterers to use, so on these occasions we may be able to cater your wedding without our food truck altogether, saving you a little money on the truck delivery! Wherever possible of course, we will bring our awesome American school bus Bella or Wolfie to serve your guests from, and to add that extra quirky vibe that’s perfect for fun and memorable photos.
Do you cater for guests with dietary requirements?
Absolutely! Once you have confirmed your wedding catering booking with us we will set three dates for progress chats with you, to help guide you along the way with the planning for the catering elements of your special day. We will ask for a list of names of any guests who have allergies and dietary requirements such as vegan or wheat or dairy free. The only exception of us needing a more thorough check is if the guest has serious (life or death) airborne or nut allergy usually, where we would ask to speak to the person directly. Usually in these circumstances the guest may ask to bring their own meal, and these are extremely rare. All our food is made with many locally sourced ingredients and our suppliers are able to cater for vegetarians, vegans and gluten free. After all, the first wedding we ever catered for was a purely vegetarian Mexican menu, served to 100 guests in a woodland feast setting! We are always happy to accommodate you and your guests to ensure everyone has a wonderfully tasty experience.

Do you provide both food servers and bar staff?
Yes we are licensed to sell and serve alcohol as well as food, and we do offer various bar and drink service options. Our wonderful hard-working team can serve arrival drinks before or after the wedding ceremony, and will be there throughout the day to provide a professional, yet relaxed and personable experience. We are able to serve wines and mineral waters to your table over the meal and serve directly from the bar. We can also be available to top up your glasses throughout the day if required.
We can set up and run a paid bar for you, or serve your own drinks, so just let us know when you make your enquiry. It’s also important to ask your wedding venue what their licensing status is, as it may be necessary to apply to a temporary event notice (TENS) with the local council, which would need to be done in advance, and in plenty of time.
We can assist in the planning of the drinks, glasses hire (working out how many you’ll need can be a little overwhelming if you’ve never done it before) and even ordering the ice and fruit. We have a mobile bar we can hire, or you may wish to use one provided by your wedding tipi or marquee company which matches the internal decor.
Draught beers, lagers and cider can also be installed in a pop up wedding bar if you have a lot of keen beer drinkers, and we can also set up several self-serve bottle stations around the venue too!
How much food should we provide for our wedding guests on the day?
We’ll work with you to plan your bespoke wedding menus and the total amount of food to serve based on your guest list and their dietary requirements. Having had plenty of experience in wedding menu planning, we know it’s sensible to slightly overestimate – better to risk having a little leftovers than have anyone feel as though they need to swing by the chippy on the way home! However, that being said, we also want to ensure you do not overspend on your wedding catering budget, so we will not let you over order unnecessary courses, sweets and snacks! We are proud of our less formal wedding catering menus, and like to be able to help our bride and groom to save money where they can. Please feel free to ask us for tips on how to save money!

How much will our wedding catering cost us?
This totally depends on guest numbers and the type of food you’re planning on having. However, our relaxed style of dining is usually less expensive than the more formal three-course wedding breakfast, and it’s also worth noting that this usually means lower staffing costs too. You have the freedom to choose to source all your own wedding decorations for the table and dining area, plus we will discuss the options for less expensive linen hire and eliminating it altogether for certain table layouts. There are plenty of creative and alternative solutions for that real rustic wedding feel. Plus, we are always happy to provide wooden and other sustainable options for cutlery and plates within the pricing of the food should you want to explore this! Certainly with our street food and festival style wedding catering, wedding couples regularly want the catering in compostable festival food containers to give that sociable and more casual dining experience.
You will note that on comparable wedding catering quotes caterers will charge either a package fee per head, or break it down by food, staff, equipment hire, bar & drinks, and then of course, VAT. We prefer a completely transparent way of quoting for your wedding catering, and we highlight each section separately so that you can see exactly what you’re paying for. This way, it is then easy for you and for us to look at areas we may be able to squeeze the price down to meet your budget for the wedding day!
Do you have any testimonials or reviews we can read about your previous weddings?

“Kate and her team were amazing at my Sept 2024 wedding. In the run up to the wedding she was very helpful with lots of options and happy to discuss how everything would work. They had an excellent selection of food for both meat eaters and veggies.. All round a fantastic day with great food! Would definitely use them again and recommend to friends.” Avril & John, September 2024 at The Enchanted Glade, Ardingly.
“Katie and her team catered our wedding. From the start to finish we had a great experience. The food was delicious and generous, catering to all allergies. Katie helped us loads ahead of the day sharing her experience and making sure we had all the parts we needed organised. On the day her team were fantastic, friendly, efficient and on top of everything so we could just switch off and enjoy the day. We couldn’t recommend old skool bus catering enough!” Leela & Oscar, August 2024 at Gote Barn, Ringmer.
“Katie & her team were absolutely wonderful in providing a delicious vegetarian meal, canapes & toasties for our outdoor wedding. Katie was delightful throughout, prompt in communication, proactive (remembering things we forgot), flexible with allergies & intolerances, and just generally supportive.
