Celebrating Uniqueness at the Quirky Weddings Awards

Quirky Weddings are a business dedicated to helping couples make their wedding day as unique, geek-chic and weird and wonderful as possible. They publish a glossy bridal magazine jam-packed full of wedding inspiration that celebrates uniqueness twice a year, as well as running wedding fayres up and down the country. These fayres celebrate their ethos of making every wedding unique, giving alternative wedding suppliers a platform to showcase their businesses in small independently run unique wedding venues.

As you know by now, we fit right into this unconventional vibe, so we were excited to be invited to exhibit as a caterer earlier this year at the Quirky Weddings Fayre at Yoghurtrooms, a rustic barn venue in East Grinstead. It was then that we became a Quirky Weddings approved supplier and featured in their directory on their website, which is filled with their favorite alternative suppliers to help couples create their ultimate unique wedding. Think the full package, with awesome photographers, videographers, venues, planners, celebrants, florists, wedding wear, cake makers, hair and makeup artists, transport, entertainment, decor and styling, stationary, accessories, and of course unique catering and bar companies, just like us!

Attending the wedding awards ceremony

Fast forward to Thursday 21st November 2024, where we were invited to attend the Quirky Wedding Awards at Tonight Josephine, a very on-brand neon pink cocktail bar in Birmingham. The awards were created for the sole purpose of acknowledging the amazing alternative wedding community, who are often overlooked for more traditional wedding awards, for not only offering something unique, but also for championing inclusivity and accessibility, and helping to create a zero-judgement wedding industry. Hosted by Maria Hurtz, we had a fun-filled and pornstar-martini-fuelled evening amongst loads of other UK suppliers across 12 categories. The ceremony is the UK’s only Wedding Awards celebrating alternative, inclusive, accessible, and unique wedding suppliers and was judged by industry experts using a unique secret shopper method. All applicants’ websites, social media profiles and reviews were examined from the perspective of a potential client, and were assessed on their business’ Inclusivity & Accessibility, Sustainability, Uniqueness and Customer Service.

We pride ourselves on being inclusive and accessible with our menus, offering a wide range of options as well as catering to dietary requirements such as vegan or wheat or dairy free. It is also really important to us to source the best local produce, and we have excellent partnerships with butchers and bakers in Brighton, who supply the 100% beef patties and tasty baps and sourdough for our burgers and toasties. And of course, our awesome American school buses Bella and Wolfie add that extra quirky vibe that’s perfect for fun and memorable photos. In terms of Customer Service, we’d rather let our testimonials do the talking!

“Katie & her team were absolutely wonderful in providing a delicious vegetarian meal, canapes & toasties for our outdoor wedding. Katie was delightful throughout, prompt in communication, proactive (remembering things we forgot), flexible with allergies & intolerances, and just generally supportive. The catering team on the day were so lovely and most importantly made delicious food. I keep getting comments from guests about how good it was! Thanks so much to the whole OSB team!” Theo & Sinead, June 2024 at Great Betley Farmhouse, Henfield.

Now back to the awards! Being such a young business ourselves and up against such strong competition, we were already thrilled to have made it as one of six finalists in the shortlist of our category. Surrounded by the top national quirky suppliers made for a fabulous evening and a great excuse to get our glad rags on. However, we are delighted to announce that…

We received the award for Most Unique Catering!

A huge thank you goes to all the judges and Quirky Wedding Fayre organisers for shortlisting us initially, and then scoring us as the national winner! We are so pleased! Congratulations to Minty’s Ice Cream, which achieved ‘highly commended’ in our category for their award-winning ice cream, which is served from a beautiful VW vintage ice cream van. Also a big well done to all the other amazing finalists, highly commended and winners of their categories.

This is really is the cherry on top of an amazing year for our business, as we also won the Brighton & Hove City Council ‘Healthy Choice Award’ in April, recognising that we use approved local, sustainable, healthy, fresh produce suppliers and always give nutritious and healthy options on all our menus, whether we’re serving street food or wedding feasts!

We can’t wait to see what else we can achieve in 2025, and we look forward to attending another Quirky Wedding Fayre soon!
